The Durant Catalog

Production of Durant vehicles began in 1921 with a four-cylinder car (model A-22). It was followed quickly in 1922 with a six (model B-22). The four cylinder car would endure until 1926 with only minor model year changes. The six-cylinder lasted only three years until 1924. It did not sell very well and was considered expensive at twice the price of the four cylinder car.

There were no Durant vehicles produced in 1927, but 1928 saw the launch of an entirely new line of Durant cars (models 55, 65, 75). Initially, Durant was to have only six-cylinder cars in its lineup leaving the four cylinder market to its companion Star line. However, by April 1928 economics dictated the shutdown of Star production, so the Star model M four-cylinder found a new home in the Durant line as the model M2. The M2 was replaced towards the end of the the year with the M4.

Durant launched another "entirely new line" in 1929 with models 40, 60, 63 and 70. Later in the year the model 66 would be added.

January of 1930 saw yet another set of cars, the four-cylinder model 407 and the six-cylinder models 614 and 617. In the fall of 1930 the model 610 and model 612 are introduced.

In 1931, with sales slowing down and money running out, there was not a full scale change in the product line. The model 401 and the model 614 were retained. A new mid-price, six-cylinder the model 618 was introduced. Later in the year the model 619 was introduced.

1932 was the final year for Durant. Two new models the 621 and 622 were announced, although concensus seems to be that they were never produced.

A-22

The A-22 was produced from 1921 to 1926. The 107 inch wheelbase car featured a 35 horsepower Continental four-cylinder engine, that in 1925 was upgraded to 37 horsepower. The A-22 was the original car in the Durant line-up.

B-22

The B-22 was Durant's original entry into the six-cylinder field. It was produced from 1922 to 1924. The 123-1/2 inch wheelbase car featured a 70 horsepower six-cylinder engine.

The M2 began life as a Star M2. When Star production was shut down in April 1928, the car was rebadged as a Durant. The Durant M2 was produced until September 1928 when it was replaced by the model M4. The 107 inch wheelbase, four-cylinder M2 featured four-wheel brakes and vacuum gasoline feed.

The M4 was produced for a short time at the end of 1928 and the beginning of 1929. It seems to have bridged production of the M2 and the 40.

Introduced in 1929, the four-cylinder model 40 was the Durant entry in the four-cylinder market for 1929. It replaced the short-lived,Durant M4. The 107 inch wheelbase model 40 featured a 36 horsepower, Continental Red Seal engine and was available in five body styles in both standard and de luxe trim.

Introduced in 1928, the model 55 was billed as one of an entirely new series of Durant cars after the one year (1927) break in production. In reality, the model 55 was a repackaged Star model R. The 107 inch wheelbase model 55 featured a six-cylinder Continental engine and four-wheel, Bendix mechanical brakes. The car was guaranteed to have a top speed of 60 miles per hour.

The model 60 was introduced in late 1928 as a replacement for the model 55. The 1929 model featured a larger, 185 cubic inch Continental Red Seal engine.

Part of the "new line for 1929", the model 63 was billed as having "an extra long stroke". The question is extra long compared to what? The engine specifications for the model 63 seem identical to the model 60.

The model 65 was introduced in 1928. Based on a 110 inch wheelbase, it boasted such features as: a coincidental locking device, air filter, oil filter and gasoline strainer.

Introduced in 1929, the 112 inch wheelbase model 66 featured: a high-efficiency type six-cylinder engine, full-pressure lubrication, Bohnalite alloy pistons, a four forward speed transmission, Bendix two-shoe four-wheel brakes and long semi-elliptic springs.

The model 70 was introduced in 1929. It featured a 70 horsepower, six-cylinder engine, Bendix four-wheel brakes, a four forward speed transmission and a top speed of 80 miles per hour.

New for 1928, the 119 inch wheelbase model 75 featured a double-high speed transmission (four speed), high compression head and a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour.

The model 407 was one of two Durant four-cylinder offerings for 1930. It featuring a 49 horsepower Continental engine, three speed transmission and "Steeldraulic" mechanical brakes. In 1932, the model 407 was no longer part of the Durant Motors line, however production continued of the car, under the Durant name, by Dominion Motors of Canada.

Introduced in 1930, the 112 inch wheelbase, model 610 featured a 50 horsepower four-cylinder engine, A.C. oil filter and the "Pullman attachment". The "Pullman attachment" converts the interior of the car into a reclining couch.

Produced at the Leaside plant only, the model 611 featured a 72 horsepower six-cylinder engine, "Steeldraulic" 4-wheel brakes and double acting hydraulic shock absorbers.

New in 1930, the model 617 was the largest Durant for the year. It featured a 70 horsepower engine, four speed transmission and "Steeldraulic" brakes.

The model 618 was introduced in 1931, when it was described as "The new, medium priced 6-18". The 115 inch wheelbase, model 618 featured a 72 horsepower, six-cylinder engine.
